The Harvard University Native American Program (HUNAP) is an inter-faculty initiative of the University whose mission is to cultivate the development, achievement and impact of American Indian, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian and other indigenous students to further the goals of the Harvard Charter of 1650, which committed the President and Fellows of Harvard College to “the education of the English and Indian youth of this country”, through community, scholarship and inclusion.

This project will help the University support the Harvard University Native American Program fulfill its mission of education, community, scholarship, and inclusion by:

  • Creating a space to nurture a thriving community of Native American and Indigenous people, their allies, and supporters, in the heart of campus
  • Enabling university-wide engagement with Native American and Indigenous issues in support of Indigenous self-determination through relevant research teaching, partnership, and exchange
  • Expanding the presence, visibility, and impact of persons of Native American and Indigenous affiliation on campus in a wide variety of roles

To fulfill this mission, HUNAP will rebuild at 15 Mt. Auburn Street, Cambridge, MA creating spaces that will accommodate both faculty and students with offices, a student lounge, a kitchen and dining area, event/meeting spaces, as well as an outdoor space.  The new building will meet all of the current structural, energy, and accessibility codes.
